Who Will Win The November USA Election?

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

After listening to and watching the US media hype regarding the USA election antics I have come to this prediction. The election winners in November will be Republicans. At this point the emphasis has been placed on the Democratic Party, mainly Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Why? I think because the Republican Party are in control of the media and by placing emphasis on Clinton and Obama, they are banking on the fact that, come election time, much of the population, Democrats and Republicans and Independents, being either sexist and/or racist, will *NOT* vote for either Hillary *OR* Obama. That will result in a majority vote for Republican candidates. At this point I can’t say exactly who the winners will be because as I already mentioned, very little emphasis has been placed on Republican candidates.

My Struggle – With Linux

Sunday, February 10, 2008

For the last three days, with more than 10 hours work per day, I have *unsuccessfully* attempted to get wireless internet working with my Linux computer that is running the Ubuntu 7.10 “Gutsy Gibbon” operating system. I’ve tried a Dell TrueMobile Wireless USB Adapter (model WL-683D) and a D-Link Wireless USB Adapter (model WUA-1340). Complicating my task is that I have no direct internet connection available so I have to research my problem using my notebook computer that *has* wireless working with the Microsoft Vista operating system. I’ll try again in a few days. For now, and since October, I am using Microsoft Vista when I need the internet; otherwise I can still use my Linux computer.

I will attend Mass in Oliver in the morning, then I have an appointment with my surgeon in Pentiction. My surgery date is still set for March 20, also in Penticton.

Death Surrounds Us Every Day

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

Today is Ash Wednesday. “Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return”; a reminder of “Tempus Fugit, Memento Mori” . . . Time Flies, Remember Death. Our life on earth *will* end.

Give to me, and all the world, the wisdom and the grace this holy season, while we can, to make this world a better place.

Finally Quickbooks 2007 Works On Vista

Sunday, February 3, 2008

After two days of *work* and *frustration* I finally got “Quickbooks EasyStart 2007″ to work on Vista. The only problem left however is that I have to ensure that Microsoft update KB942615 is *not* installed. Basically the following steps were necessary.

1. Remove Microsoft update KB942615.
2. In Control Panel, go to “Windows Update” and configure Microsoft updates to *not* install automatically.
3. Go to “Norton Protection Center” (I previously got rid of McAfee) and configure to *not* download any *Microsoft* updates.
4. Install Quickbooks from the “Install” file, *not* the autostart method.
5. Download Quickbooks updates.
6. Install Quickbooks updates.

The problem now: I do not have KB942615 installed, I don’t know what it does, and Microsoft insists on trying to make me install it. For *now* I can live with that.
